It is in a Cat's nature to be territorial. Throughout the roleplay, there is likely to be constant struggles over who's in ownership of what land, especially when Prey becomes scarce. Therefore, we have this here handy guide to help you in claiming (and keeping) what is rightfully yours!
The Benefits of Having a Territory
To start with, it should be made clear that there are certain areas that will always remain a part of a clan's territory - this is their clan homes. The reason being, unless the clan goes extinct, there are always enough cats around camp to keep the area well-scented. However, the downside is that no hunting, or scavenging for herbs, can be done within the camps. It is strictly a home base for the clans to regroup.
Alternatively, there are two areas that can never be claimed by one solitary clan; these areas are The Moonfalls and Brightrock. This is because these areas hold special significance for all clans, as the spiritual center of the Clan's religion. While fighting can and will break out in these areas, their status must remain Neutral.
There are several benefits of having a territory:
-- The ability to challenge and attack tresspassers without upsetting the Warrior Code.
-- Safer to move around without worry of attack from enemy cats.
-- No time restriction for moving between regions owned by the same clan (See Below).
-- Immediate dice rolls for fighting enemy clans.
So, How do I Claim Territory?
To mark an areas as belonging to a particular clan, you must enter the individual zone and 'mark' it - that is to say, simply post that whichever character you are currently using is marking the area and claiming it for their clan. For example:
Shimmereye walked along the borders of the Dark Path, making sure to spread her scent along the way, claiming it as part of Glenclan Territory.
Once you have done this, please make a topic in the 'Update the Staff' Zone, linking to the post and telling us what you have done. Or, if you wish to be sneaky about it - PM a staff member. Updating on the boards lets everyone see what claims you are making.
Once you have done this, the marking must go 'unchallenged' (or only re-marked by fellow clanmates) for 4 in-roleplay hours (4 Real Life Days). If this happens, then the territory is yours!
But wait - now you must KEEP that territory - which is easier said than done. If a territory goes completely unmarked by your clan for 14 in-roleplay hours (2 weeks) - it will return to a neutral state, or move over to being another clan's territory if they have marked it thusly.
How Do I Travel Between Lands?
For reference, different regions on this site will be considered separate boards. The zones and territories are the individual threads themselves. Keeping the following in mind, you cannot 'teleport' across the lands. Regions are listed by what lands they touch. So, if you wish to cross over from Region 1 to Region 3 - you will need to pass through the central region first, Region 2.
When visiting a territory that isn't yours, you must stay there for a 30 minute Real Time minimum before passing through. However, When on land owned currently by your Clan, you can move freely to a new zone - no restrictions.
